“Take a hike.”
Those words may not always be said in the most loving manner, but I’m telling you because I do care about you – take a hike!
National Take a Hike Day is Saturday, November 17th. This event was created by the American Hiking Society to encourage folks to get out of doors and is held every year on Nov. 17th. Whether a jaunt around your neighborhood or a longer hike at a community, state or national park, they want you to get off of your duff and explore nature. Novel idea, right?
To help you explore, there are literally thousands of resources available including: https://www.alltrails.com/.
Visit the website, type in your city and you can find nearby or some not-so-nearby trails. They boast that there are over 50,000 trails listed so give it a try!
Local and national outdoor retailers are also hosting events. In Pittsburgh, Three Rivers Outdoor Company will be hosting a family friendly hike at nearby Frick Park. Check out other sites and see what they may be doing.
Another great resource for Pittsburgh folks is this article: https://www.pittsburghmagazine.com/Pittsburgh-Magazine/April-2017/Take-a-Hike-10-of-the-Best-Trails-in-the-Pittsburgh-Area/
If you aren’t in Pittsburgh, I’m sure that you have resources listing places near you.
Wherever you decide to hike, the main thing is take a hike. Gather up some friends, lace up your shoes and get out for a few hours to explore the parks and get some exercise. Use the hash tag: #Nationaltakeahikeday and post your photos.
So, take a hike! Let us know if you celebrate National Take a Hike Day.
